Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA) Networks
Features summary:
- Small self-contained VSAT satellite communications terminals
- Includes a 1.6m or larger diameter antenna and a satellite communications
unit
- Employs a multiple protocol handling Communication Interface Unit (CIU)
- Optional battery backed solar power charging system
- Designed to NEMA standards and integrates with most commercially
available Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
- A single remote SCADA VSAT terminal can monitor and control a number of
RTUs, all operating on different protocols
- The SCADA terminal's CIU continuously monitors each attached remote
device, i.e., sensors, switches, gauges, valves, alarms, controllers, etc.
- Collects and sends relevant data back to the user when polled or
commanded to do so
- Remote SCADA terminals may be backed up if necessary using dedicated
leased phone lines, dial-up telephone lines or other satellite links
VSAT SCADA is the ideal solution for:
- Offshore oil drilling and exploration platforms
- Remote areas such as swamps, jungles and deserts
- Limited access areas such as rugged mountainous terrain, sites with
extreme meteorological conditions, and government restricted locations
- Areas with limited or unreliable telecommunications infrastructure
- Remote monitoring of physical assets status and location using GPS
- Monitoring and controlling access to secure areas and reporting
intrusions
NSIS can design and deliver SCADA satellite systems to include every
essential feature for a fixed monitoring station, including:
- Two-way, fully acknowledged satellite link
- Capability to download RTU parameter values, valve setting and
commands
- Capability to collect data on a periodic or event-driven basis
- Password-protected command and data messaging security
- Capability to monitor and control several devices at a single site
- Quick, easy installation
- Self-aligning antenna for fast deployment
- Capability to incorporate managed data collection services
